License Requirements, Fees, and Examination Information:
Examination Requirement: 16-hour National Council for Engineers and Surveyors (NCEES) Vertical Forces & Lateral Forces Structural examinations.

Background Check: Completing a background check is required for licensure. All applicants are required to submit fingerprints prior to sitting for examination. For more information, please refer to the Board’s website at: http://www.bpelsg.ca.gov/applicants/fingerprinting.shtml.
Examination Frequency: Semi-Annual (spring and fall) examination cycle. For final filing dates please refer to the Board's website at: www.bpelsg.ca.gov.
Exam Locations: Statewide at designated locations. Please refer to the NCEES website at: www.ncees.org.
Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of responsible charge experience in structural engineering after licensure as a Civil Engineer, except for persons who have been operating under an exemption or have been practicing in another state or country. Applicants must have a valid, unexpired license as a Civil Engineer in California. Please refer to the Board's website at: www.bpelsg.ca.gov.
Average Time to Process Application: Three (3) months.
